Fly with the portable device of your choice and Garmin-caliber GPS data at the same time. GLO for Aviation brings you the best of both worlds by combining GPS/GLONASS receivers with Bluetooth® technology so you can get precise position information on your iPad, iPhone or Android device.
Enjoy the Accuracy of GPS + GLONASS
GLO for Aviation can receive position information from both the GPS and GLONASS satellite constellations, allowing it to connect to up to 24 more satellites than devices that rely on GPS alone. This allows GLO to lock on to satellites approximately 20% faster and keep up with even the most demanding jet speeds. What’s more, GLO updates its position information 10x per second – up to 10x more often than the GPS receivers in many mobile devices. When you access geo-referenced charts, Garmin SafeTaxi or the moving map display in Garmin Pilot (6 months of which come free with your GLO purchase), you’ll know that what you see is the most precise picture possible.
Set it Up and Fly
Using Bluetooth® technology, GLO for Aviation wirelessly pairs to your mobile device. Just use the included mount to set GLO on your glare screen and within moments, you’ll be receiving GLO’s position data. The device features up to 12 hours of battery life to keep your position on even the longest of flights, and charging GLO between uses is a cinch with the included USB cable or 12/24 Volt cigarette lighter adapter
**Note: Garmin Pilot app only serves USA for charts and navigation. Expanded coverage expected in future. Garmin GLO will provide aviation grade GPS signal worldwide.**
If you have an IPad 1 (first generation) with GPS, you would be better off using the built in gps instead of a Bluetooth GPS because the ipad try's to block all non-apple systems. You have to shut down the IPad completely every time you use it. Blame Apple.
This unit packed it in after a year and three rechargeable batteries. I used it with iPad Mini and Foreflight. Also, Garmin Pilot is no good in Canada. Moving to a Dual GPS.
Does the Garmin GLO work with the app ForeFlight?
Yes it will work as this is a generic GPS signal via Bluetooth to your device. You can run Garmin Pilot and WingX as well. It is ADS-B receivers that are specific to certain apps. Can the Garmin Glo GPS receiver communicate to more than one device at the same time?
No, it can only communicate to one device at a time. I live in South Africa will the Garmin Glo work on an iPad with our local flight apps.
The Garmin Glo will give GPS via Bluetooth to the iPad (for any app needing GPS). The key is finding an app with international maps as most aviation apps only have USA maps. If sitting on the glare shield, what is the max operating temperature of the Garmin Glo unit? Needs to be 140f to 150f for most summer operations.
The operating temperature for the Garmin Glo is -4° to 140° F. All additional technical data can be found in the "Operating Instructions and Technical Data" located in the Documents tab of this web page. Will this Garmin Glo work with the basic iPad Mini?
Yes, this Garmin Glo will work as a GPS device for the iPad Mini.
