- Servos support all autopilot features provided by the EFIS, including:
Heading select
ILS approach coupling
GPS approach coupling
Climb/Descent to selected altitude
Climb/Descent on IAS or vertical speed
Synthetic approach coupling
Automatic approach capture
VOR coupling
- Fail-Safe Servo Design:
Clutchless - Minimizes possibility of inadvertent servo jam
Shearable Output Arm - disconnects servo mechanically in the rare case of an internal servo jam
Limited Authority - Pilot may override the servo by simply moving the control stick
- Safe Design Features:
Servo arm retained by castle nut.
Case retained with safety-wired fasteners such that the geartrain can not separate to potentially jam flight controls.
Servo torque sensing provides Trim Up/Down indication to prevent unexpected loss of pitch control
Unexpected disconnect or mode change generates EFIS alarm
