(Click image for a larger view) | This is one of the best portable GPS mounts on the market. It has been designed, tested, and assembled entirely in the USA. Although it was developed and tested for many hours in Piper Aircraft and with a variety of Garmin GPS products including the brand new Garmin AERA line; it may be adapted to other applications and GPS units due to the utilization of a universal mounting plate and the ability of the windshield post clamp to fit any post size from 7/16 inch to 5/8 inch. This mount may also be permanently mounted in experimential aircraft. It is a windshield center post mount system designed to clamp to the split windshield post typically found in most Piper aircraft. This system locates the GPS on top of or level with the glare shield for easy obstruction free viewing by the pilot. The GPS can also be angled toward the pilot for a better viewing angle. They came up with the idea because of a desire to eliminate much of the clutter and awkwardness of typical yoke and windshield mount systems. They liked a clean un-cluttered look with an openly accessible and easy to view instrument panel. This mount design fills the need nicely. It is an especially clean setup when combined with the new Garmin Aera and its single wire cable hookup. Even better is the way the Aera easily snaps in and out of the mount. The mounting kit includes: - GPS mounting bracket with swivel mount and post clamp.
- 4 screws for mounting the GPS adapter
(GPS adapter is reused from current GPS package). - 4 self locking nuts.
- 2 Allen wrenches for mount adjustments (7/64 and 3/16).
- 2" x 2" foam mounting insulator.
- Install instructions.
- All hardware is stainless steel or coated aircraft grade aluminum.
Note: It may be necessary to relocate the Magnetic compass in some aircraft if it is installed too close to the top of the glare shield. |
