GE SPACE INVADER FOR WINDOWS AND DOORS

If you'll be insulating an unfinished space anytime in the near future, and plan to be using a foam sealant, then you should be aware of GE's entry into the field with its Space Invader product. The company is already well known in construction product circles for its sealants, especially its clear silicone. And the company already offers a general-purpose foam sealant. But that product is not suitable for insulating around windows and doors because its expansion can exert enough pressure against the frames and jambs to move them inward, preventing the sash or door from moving in its opening.

Space Invader Window & Door formula produces a dense cell structure that exerts minimal pressure on surrounding lumber, and the frames of windows and doors. When cured, most of the foam's cell cavities are quite small and closely spaced (70 percent of the foam's cell structure is in this form, known as closed-cell, according to GE). This closed-cell structure permits 90 percent less water to enter it than comparable products, says GE. 12-ounce can
