I always lube my new oil filters with a few drops of oil. Many years ago I read the directions and they said to do this. Now they say install it dry. Evidently, I must reread directions each time I do something. This seemed so simple but No.

Usually get my filters from Spruce. Noticed that the last filters were dry lube and some were older stock that were not. Not a big deal...I usually wipe the dry lube off and apply DC4 anyways. The first dry lube filter I used in April weeped.

A little cheaper than Champion, and contain a magnet to remove any steel particles. The filter can is made from heavy duty steel, and the inside appears to be well made too. The magnet is an excellent feature. When I change filters the magnet has a small amount of dark ferrous metal dust on it.

These Filters work great and are as described Ive bought them for years and they perform very well.

I like the hex head for torquing and the new seal technology that requires no lubricant. Make sure to wipe the mating surface on the engine clean of any lubricant and install the filter to a dry surface.

This will help improve oil quality in these old engines!

Switched to Tempest Filters a year ago after a presentation and evaluation at Air Venture, Oshkosh. Now they are my first choice filter.

I used this filter on my Light Sport Rotax 912. It is definitely a piece of mind, knowing that the filter now has the safety wire attached. I cant understand why Rotax doesnt provide the tabs for a safety wire.

As good as a filter gets. I particularly like the internal magnet for collecting ferrous particles and being able to monitor the quantity between oil changes.

Ive been using Tempest filters and spark plugs since the Champion rep at Oshkosh tried to tell me there was absolutely no problem with their spark plugs. Tempest has great products.

I previously used Champions but switched to the Tempest. Though we always cut the filter after oil changes and check for metal, having the magnet it the Tempest gives a little extra chance to collect and see magnetic metals.

Tempest filters are great. I like the magnetic chip catcher and the new self lubricating seal. The only thing I would recommend when removing the filter for change is to use a 6 point socket. Twice now I stripped out the torque hex head while attempting to remove with a 12 point socket. Otherwise a superior oil filter.

The filter is just fine. It must be REALLY popular since it was back ordered and took a couple weeks to get delivered.

Tempest is the best whether it is their oil flilters or their spark plugs. Superior to Champion, especially their UREM38S fine wire spark plugs. The magnet in the oil filters do their job. Great products from this company!

Quality filter. Both the Champion and Tempest are certified down to 40 microns. The Tempest is cheaper and has an internal magnet, the Champion does not. This is my preferred oil filter for my Mooney. AA48110-2

Ordered 6 Tempest Oil Filters at a price less than any other competitor. They arrived within the time specified. My only complaint was the packing material of styrofoam peanuts rather than crumpled paper. When I opened the box at my hanger the wind blew a bunch all over the hanger and I had to spend time cleaning them up.

For several years since I purchased my 1975 Cessna 150M I used the Champion 48108 short filter when I changed oil. The previous owner installed an Airwolf remote oil filter so a few oil changes ago I decided to try the longer Tempest 48109 filter. It works great and I get almost an extra pint of oil into the system. It does as good (if not better) a job as Champion, and costs less!

Work just fine in my 0320. No issues what so ever.

Like others I tried the Tempest filter because it is more economical than the Champion brand. They seem to do the job. Oddly, however, while I have never had trouble unscrewing a Champion filter, I had a heck of a time removing the Tempest filter yesterday. Because I don’t fly nearly enough these days the filter only had 35 hours on it since the last annual. This is not going to stop me from buying and using Tempest filters. I just thought it amusing because of the hype Tempest makes about easy removal.

The oil filter application guide for Cirrus said it will fit SR20. Use 48109 for SR22. I ordered 48109 and it did not fit because of the AC line. If you have air condition, use 48108-2

Ive got foreflight cool airplanes that we are using these on. For 30 years I used to Champion but I thought Id try these because the cost was a little bit lower and I go through a lot of filters. So far everything is fine about them, the only reason Im not giving them 5 stars is that since the gasket has to be dry, I have to let the oil drain overnight in a couple of my airplanes because theres no way to get the filter on there fast enough that a little bit of oil isnt still dribbling by. Thats a little bit of a pain in the butt for me to have two drain oil night and then first thing in the morning finish an oil change! I sort of wish they did not have the fancy gasket, I never had problems in the past getting the champion filters off so this feature doesnt really impress me.

Much better quality than the other brand at a much cheaper price. I havent had one get stuck when correctly torqued. Read the new instructions on the Spin EZ type of seal prior to use.

I like these filters. Availability and price are not ideal. Also, while they are supposed to be self lubricating, I find that they adhere to the filter adapter too snugly compared to the original filter plus lubricant.

Good filters. However, remove the paint from the 1 Nut used to remove it before installation. Your socket will not fit very well and the paint seems to lubricate and causes the socket to slip and now you are stuck trying to remove it the old fashioned way. It created an unbelievable mess. I discussed this issue with a rep at Sun N Fun last year. He gave me a vague response.

I had the same difficulty in removing the filter as Cody S mentioned. I installed the filter myself, so I know it was not over torqued. I followed the directions and refrained from lubricating the sealing gasket. Apparently the solid lubricant Tempest is so proud of didn’t work. From now on I’ll be applying DC4 to gaskets on Tempest filters.

Changing a customers oil in his SR-22, I had a hell of a time removing the Tempest oil filter. It could have been over torqued during the last oil change, (not done by me), but definitely not EZ.

I fly a twin so I need two filters. My find is Tempest was much better before they starting using the no DC4 on the seal. To pull the filters can now be a challenge because they simply are much harder to remove and they were torqued to the proper value during the install.. Called Tempest today and they said, you can remove the additive on the seal by wiping the seal with a wet rag. My opinion, if it isnt broke dont fix it. Im going back to Champion.
