The new switch performs as Id expect positive key position detents, key retention while the ignition is on. But...$700+ for this benefit?

TCM SWITCH 10-357200-1

February 2, 2024

I purchased the 10-357210-1 which does not have a start function just L, R, Both and OFF mag positions. The switch performs well as an FAA certified mag switch in a 1946 Aeronca 7AC champ. I had to build a mount plate because the switch mounts on the left side between the front and rear pilot seats and it was about 7/8 too deep to go in the space between the aircraft fabric surface and the switch mounting plate. The switch did not come with a certification form so I entered the TCM part number as an FAA approved switch in the airframe log book.

Looks great, was very easy to install. I had an older switch that was smaller, so I did have to enlarge the hole to 7/8 to accommodate this switch, but that was easily and cleanly done with a taper bit.

Q: Is the bendix ingnition switch (model 10-357200-1) pma certified?

Yes, this switch is certified.

Q: You say the switch is certified but for what -- aircraft, engines or by aircraft part number?

The switch itself is FAA-PMA'd. There is no applicability list. That must be determined by the installer but it is FAA Approved for use in certified aircraft.

Q: Its hard to say how recent the tech data sheet is. I have one from the 80s and it is huge. I know this is smaller but would like to know the diameter and depth?

Per the installation manual: 1.068 x 1.828

Q: Is this part a substitute for the older Bendix p/n 10-126690-1?

10-126690-1 superseded to 10-357200-1

Q: How many Amps is the Bendix Start Switch PN#10-357200-1 Rated for? ... I saw the Magneto contacts were rated for 5 Amps in the documentation. Can you clarify this for me please?

It is rated to handle magneto primary voltage and/or 24 volts DC, 5 amps.

Q: Are the keys 2 sided?

These are single sided keys per the data sheet.

Q: Is their any warranty on these switches?

12 months or 500 hours, whichever happens first.

Q: On an ignition switch without a starter or prime function, can the key be removed in any position other than the off position?

The key can only be removed in the off position.
