The Bycan PS-1450 Aircraft Ramp Power Supply and Battery Charger is a dual-purpose aircraft flight line service and maintenance tool. The unit has a filtered 14 volt DC power supply with up to 50 amperes capability for tests of aircraft electrical systems and a secondary mode for recharging run-down batteries. This ramp or hangar accessory is an absolute must for avionics service, gear and flap actuator exercising and other electrical system service. The PS-1450 plugs directly into the aircraft APU connector and is tied to the electrical system when the master switch is activated.
The battery charging mode is selectable by a front panel switch. The charging process is fully automatic. When the charge is in progress a red LED is illuminated. This is replaced by a green LED when the aircraft battery is fully charged. The on/off switch on the unit also resets the unit.

This unit is NOT a regulated power supply. It does not provide a constant, stable voltage output throughout its amperage range. At 1 amp it outputs over 15 volts, at 50 amps it outputs around 11 volts. In conversations with the manufacturer's tech support, this is not a technical issue, it is how the units are designed. Since, in most applications, the battery switch must be on for this unit to power the aircraft, if you are only powering low draw items (avionics, etc.) this unit will be pumping over 15 volts into the aircraft battery, which can damage the battery. I will be seeking a refund on this unit and look for one with a stable, regulated voltage output.
