Overview

Note: Manufacturer C of C not available on Zeftronics stocked units. Zeftronics C of C available via special order only. If certs are required, please add part # 07-00000 with your order (See Accessories).

The R15100 Rev A is a 14Vdc solid state Alternator Controller (Voltage Regulator) designed for use with 12Vdc aircraft alternators. This unit provides Voltage Regulation, Field induction protection, Low/High Voltage indicator pin, and self-protecting Field-to-ground short protection, as well as an on-unit Field Fault/Function indicator. The indicator pins allows a light connected to it and bus to come on whenever the alternator switch is open, the OV sensor is defective (open), or the wire to pin S is open. The unit will turn itself off and turn on a RED light if it senses that the alternator field or field wire is shorted to ground. When the ground fault is removed or repaired, the unit with come back on line (with a GREEN light) once the alternator switch is cycled. If the wire from the alternator battery terminal to pin A is broken, the on-unit light will be OFF. The R15100 Rev A has two mounting holes and fully pin and function compatible with the Cessna equivalent unit.

Benefits:
  • Increased Regulator life. Reduced panel lights flicker.
  • Warns the Pilot of Low & OV Conditions.
  • Protects against grounded alternator field.
  • Identifies grounded field. Reduce trouble-shooting time.

Aircraft Spruce shipped on time and the R15100-A was an easy replacement for the old regulator in my Grumman Traveler.

The voltage regulator bolts on directly with a good fit. The trouble shooting light indicator is a nice feature. The blades on the connectors are a bit thinner than the old regulator that it replaced, so the plug did not fit tightly. I had to crimp the plug connections to allow them to hold on to the blades.

I have not installed it yet as I ordered the Cessna P/N and then found out I needed the model with the built in OV protection that allows for the removal of the problematic OV module under the panel. Their is a 25% re-stocking fee if you open the box. Ironically it was the instruction sheets enclosed that made me realizr i needed the other model RV not R. I put a call in to Zeftronics to confirm that the model I failed to order was in fact what would work on my Cardinal 177RG. The tech was very cordial and knowledgeable. He sent me a pdf for referral so I could confirm what we believed was the correct unit to replace the original unit. I purchased via ACS and they are required to charge the 25% restocking fee that is plainly written on the Zeftronics box so be sure you order the correct unit for your desired option as there are two options and the ACS website will direct you to the replacement not the improved model that allows the elimination of the factory OV module.

This unit is a direct replacement of the OEM Voltage regulator for most Cessnas listed. Its has no Overvoltage Circuit built in and relies on the original Cessna Over Voltage Sense unit PN C593001-0101 installed between the Alternator Switch and Alternator Field Circuit breaker to trip the regulator circuit inside the ACU (Alternator Control Unit) from the factory. Just bolt it on the Firewall and go. No wiring changes needed. But most of those Overvoltage parts are pushing 40-50 Years old. Spend the extra money and buy the Zeftronics R15V00 which includes the Over Voltage Sense in the ACU. The old Cessna Over Voltage Sense unit PN C593001-0101 will need to be removed though. Some minor wiring work will be needed. Check out Zeftronics Web site for more info.

Nice unit. Had to squeeze wire connectors since the tabs on this unit were thinner than the original...

The part arrived on the date promised and the shipment was complete. I provided the component to my mechanic who has not installed it yet. Will update the post if there is anything remarkable after the install.

I should have known better than to order this regulator for my GENERATOR, standard-equipped Cessna 150C. However, my mechanic recommended it and the catalog lists this early model 150 as applicable. The mistaken assumption is the airplane has been converted to alternator. This resulted in an unnecessary return and restocking cost. Please make a cautionary note in your catalog.

Q: Is this unit installed via STC or PMA? Is this unit adjustable? What are the warranty terms?

Per the supplier: R15100 Rev A is FAA-STC, requiring the filing of FAA Form 337. No, the R15100 Rev A is not field adjustable. We have added a link to the Zeftronics warranty terms in the "Documents" tab of this web page.

Q: Is there overvolt protection from Zeftronics Voltage Regulator R15100? Installing in a 1972 Cessna 177B Cardinal

This does not have built in over voltage protection. You would want R15V00 Rev A, it has the over voltage protection.
