|If you fly for very long you will quickly realize the importance of locking your control surfaces when leaving the plane outdoors. In my case I tried many different solutions with varying degrees of success. Finally we have a solution. The AirGizmos Gust Locks are designed to quickly lock virtually any control surface securely. It's bright color and integrated flag reminds you to remove before flight. The rubber cushions ensure that your finish will be protected. They are lightweight and portable. Perfect for carrying in the plane wherever you go.|
These things are great. Perfect mate of flat plates to match control surface to fixed airfoil and with a soft, flexible strap (vs a bolt) to hold them together. Sounds so simple that it should have been something obvious to do. I was thrilled when I first saw it, and moreso after trying it
Works exactly as advertised. Fits a wide variety of control surface thicknesses and rotatable strap clamp makes it very versatile.
I almost never write reviews. great product. Dont care iff it wears out in a year or so as others say. cheap solution to what could be a very expensive damage issue. pull them tight and cinch it and they hold fast
Im very impressed with these locks. I was going to make my own but its actually more economical to buy these.
Great item, the price is a little high but it works great
Really nice - I love them
Great gust locks, replaced my old homemade ones with these Air Gizmos & Im very pleased with the function and appearance!
Do not hold well at all. There is an over center lock on the strap I thought would hold well, but the straps slip with the slightest pressure. The first time I used them outdoors, two of three gust-locks were on the ground the next morning.
It might be okay for brief storage, like between flight school sorties, but otherwise it’s kind of junk. It can easily slide out of tension since the leading edge side of the wing-aileron /elevator-horiz.stab / rudder-vert.stab attachment point is thicker than the trailing edge. So when the wind blows the up and down force on the lock makes it wiggle to the thinner edge, eventually falling off. The rubber pad isn’t sticky enough to prevent that. Yes, I had it as tight as it would go. Further, the locking mechanism will allow slippage of the strap even with a little tension on it. It’s useless on my elevator, in particular, due to the weight of the elevator, even with one installed on each side. Frankly, this is more gimmick than anything else. Get an actual control lock that mounts to the yoke.
These are quite literally the worst gust locks that I have used. They have little to no UV protection and didnt last a year before the straps disintegrated and the plastic became discolored. The straps were also difficult to adjust and would not hold tension so they constantly needed to be adjusted. I hate to say it but very overpriced and failed to deliver. I bought because they appeared to be good quality and that is what I expected.
Yes, these gust locks are designed to work on most general aviation aircraft, including the Cessna 182 series.
Yes, current inventory is Gen 2.
