Overview

Two primary features of the FP-5 are a pilot programmable low fuel alert and a pilot programmable low time to empty alert. These alerts catch your attention by blinking the low fuel LED which will turn off when acknowledged by pushing any button or switch. These alerts can be at any time from the front panel of the FP-5. By setting these alerts, the FP-5 becomes a Fuel Managing Co-Pilot, alerting you when it is time to check your fuel levels, switch tanks, compare your time to destination calculations to the FP-5 readings or any other function you need to perform.

Another primary feature of the FP-5 is a Pilot Programmable low fuel warning. This warning catches your attention by blinking the low fuel LED which will turn off when acknowledged by pushing any button or switch. This warning is an emergency warning, similar to those on other fuel flow instruments, but it is pilot programmable from the front panel at any time. This programmability allows you to set the limit to your specifications according to your aircraft and your desired safety margin (not a fixed limit chosen by a loran or fuel flow manufacturer). FP-5L kits interface with any GPS or Loran that has an Argus RS-232 output part.

To further manage your fuel and provide safety the FP-5 displays fuel pressure in .2 PSI increments to 100 PSI. In addition it offers 1 pilot programmable Low Fuel Pressure Warning & 1 Pilot Programmable High Fuel Pressure Warning. These warnings catch your attention by blinking the H/L press. LED. These warnings are emergency warnings and can be instrumented in early problem detection.

Features include programmable K factor, programmable fuel weight, and programmable display for gal. or lbs., fuel flow to .1 gal/hr., fuel used and remaining to 1/10 of a Gallon, time to empty to one minute, fuel pressure to .2 PSI, one programmable low fuel alert, one programmable time to empty alert, one programmable high fuel pressure warning. The Model FFDM-1 Fuel Flow Differential Module enables the FP-5 and FP-5L kits to accommodate a pressure carb with a fuel return line back to the fuel tank. Includes FT-60 Transducer. P/N 10-25325
The standard Fuel Transducer (FT-60) designed for the FP-5 Fuel Flow/Pressure Instrument is intended to be used on aircraft equipped with fuel pumps. A gravity feed system requires the FT-90 flow transducer.

I purchased the instrument. In summer of 2013. However I never installed the instrument till summer of 2015 and followed the instructions closely to prevent transducer vibrations. Happy with the install it worked well for three summers on my float plane totaling less then 100 hours the transducer failed. After closely looking it over for loose wires or dirt I finally contacted EI which at least the replied quickly. However they refuse to give a discount on a replacement FT90. Guess things are not built to last anymore. Probably just remove the fuel flow and junk it as itâs hardly worth paying for a replacement.

Fuel flow is spot on easy to install.eccellent customer support .the only issue that I have is the lack of free shipping in canada even though it it says free shipping

Q&A

Q: Is the FP-5-180 STC'd for the North American AT 6 aircraft?

After checking with the manufacture, it is not STC'd for that aircraft. The gauge is still certified but you will need a sign off on it. You can check our document tab to see the STC listing.

Q: What other items are required for this unit other than the hoses? Is a functional module required for basic operation?

All FP-5 gauges do not require a functional module for basic operation. Fuel hoses, a circuit breaker, and electrical connectors are all that is needed for installation.

Q: Can the EI FP-5 fuel scanner be displayed in both gallons and liters?

Yes, the FP-5 can be user programmed to display Gallons, Pounds, or Liters.

Q: Will this handle two tanks, assuming there is a transducer for each tank?

Yes. Please see the installation manual for full details on installing with two tanks.

Q: Does the FT-60 Transducer provide both fuel flow and fuel pressure data or is a separate fuel pressure sensor required

Per EI, fuel flow only.

Q: What is included with the EI FP-5 other than the actual fuel flow?

This unit has fuel flow and horsepower capabilities only.

Q: The FP-5-60 to answer a question that may already been asked, does this unit indicate both fuel flow & fuel pressure?

Fuel pressure can be added as an option for display on the "Aux" input.

Q: What is the difference between the FP-5 listed here and the FP-5L? What size circuit breaker is required for installation? Is there a recommended part number available?

The FP-5L includes an RS232/422 interconnect, the FP-5 does not. E.I. Recommends a 1 amp fuse/circuit breaker for this installation.

Q: Does the product include the STC paperwork?

It is not in the box, however, the STC document can be downloaded from the DOCUMENTS tab.
