The YAESU FTA-550 is packed with features, yet very affordable. Boasting an oversize full dot matrix LCD display, the FTA-550 Airband Transceiver provides full communication on the Aircraft communications Band and additionally provides VOR and LOC navigation features on the "NAV" band. The FTA-550 includes NOAA weather band monitoring and the capability of programming up to 200 memory channels with a quick and easy channel recall feature. The brand new easy to operate menu system is icon driven making it simple to navigate through all of the powerful features this transceiver has to offer. Additionally the FTA-550 can easily be reprogrammed in minutes using the optional PC Programming software and the supplied USB programming cable.
Note: The FTA-550 AA comes with an Alkaline Battery Tray (it does not include a Rechargeable Battery).
Excellent that it doesnt need charging.
Great radio! I use it for receive only as I design aircraft receive antennas. It works very well on the NAV VOR function. The CDI display is large and easy to read and has 2 methods to enter the OBS. There is a VORTAC about 16 nm away and there is no problem receiving the signal with the antenna supplied. I purchased the AA battery version as I only use it as a receiver. The radio feels robust and is easy to use with one hand.
It is a gift. The ordering and delivery were highly satifactory
I received this radio a few days ago. It was packaged well with usb cable, dc power cable, comprehensive instruction manual, and AA battery pack. The unit is heavy, which usually means well built. The controls are easy to use and once you get the hang of it, tagging frequencies with a name is quick and easy. It has great volume, a solid squelch, large easy to read display. I find this unit comfortable to hold as well. I havent used it in a plane yet, but I am very pleased with my purchase.
I was holding out for the Icom but my friend talked me into trying it. No regrets. Fantastic price and performance. The menus are intuitive and the sound is crisp and clear. Will recommend to anyone.
Iâm a new RPAS pilot , thus needed an air band transceiver to support that. Quite honestly, I choose this radio because itâs the cheapest one I could find. Iâve been using it for a few weeks now. It does everything itâs supposed too, very easy to program, very easy to use. Sound quality is great. I am very happy with my purchase . Iâm glad I didnât spend more for what Iâm using it for.
THIS UNIT EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS --- AT AN EXCELLENT PRICE
Great lil backup radio but the instruction manual is only a 1 Star.
I bought this to use locally while my radio is being replaced. While I havent made full use of it yet (havent used the memory functions) I am pleased with the ease of use and functions.
The radio works exactly as advertised! If I had to find a complaint, the only thing I could think of is that the four batteries are a tight fit and required some muscle to install.
The Yaesy Vertex FTA 550 AA is pre-loaded, ready to use out of the box.
While the Yaesu Vertex FTA 550 can support both 8.33 and 25 Khz spacing, it is not CE marked.
The Vertex FTA 550L comes with a Headset Adapter Cable in which you can plug a PTT switch such as PN:11-12100 into. If you connect a headset with the Headset Adapter Cable you need to use the switch on the transceiver itself or a PPT switch. To plug a helicopter headset into dual GA jacks you would need PN: Part # 13-09307.
The average life of the batteries is 13.5 hours and per the manual, Alkaline batteries are to be used. Rechargeable NI-CD or NI-CH AA's are not to be used.
Yes, this does have a sidetone when used with a headset.
The approximate dimensions of the radio with the battery pack on are: 2-1/2" W x 6" H x 1-1/2" D.
The antenna is included in the box.
Yes, you can purchase part # 11-12832 later which is the rechargeable battery.
This model uses a AA battery pack, so it does not recharge using 110v or 220v. For the rechargeable lithium version, see part # 11-12460 (110v) or 11-12530 (220v).
The PTT would be plugged into the headset adapter, and the headset plug would then go into the PTT. Any portable PTT, like part # 11-07712, would work with this radio headset adapter.
