| For Love of Flying is an authentic story that captures the diverse journey of a conventional individual who, at age 55, takes on the personal challenge of learning to fly small aircraft. The well-illustrated narrative describes, largely in sequential detail, early training procedures through to gaining a private pilot's licence. The account is interspersed with factual experiences of adventures, some technical flying information, trials, tribulations, and tragedy. The book also recounts rare, descriptive, scenic, exploit flights and landings into rugged mountainous backcountry areas of New Zealand. The story features the author's aircraft, a Cessna 172 'Skyhawk', a type recognised as the world's largest selling, four-seater, small aircraft. Follow the journey as the author gains expertise in flying and acquires first-hand experiences - and overcomes set-backs in his adventurous ride. For The Love of Flying concludes with descriptions of intriguing flights in friends' various aircraft, including and exhilarating aerobatic undertaking in a neighbour's P-51D Mustang WWII fighter. |
