These high quality carburetor heat boxes are available for most common Lycoming & Continental engines. Not FAA approved. For Lycoming 0-360 series.
Basic box dimensions: 9"D x 6"H x 4"W
I built a Murphy Elite, and installed this abomination on my 0-360. The engine and aircraft now has 700 hours and I have replace 4 of these heat boxes. At 700 hours, I now need a fifth. The brass bushing on the right side of the box simply don't last. Due to the design of the cowl I'm stuck with this format of carb heat box, but would warn others to steer away from this heat box, unless you like to replace them at $200.00 a pop on a regular basis. I contacted Usher, and basically got a brush off. Find an alternative.
Poor quality bushings on the butterfly shaft . They appear to be bronze and both failed after only 175 hours . Rather than buy another $200 carb heat box , I cut out the old shaft and made a new shaft and butterfly valve . The BF valve is attached to the shaft with mini nuts and bolts should I have to remove the shaft again . At the recommendation of a member in our group I installed Rubber Grommets that can be easily replaced .
The Bracket kit p/n BA4106 will fit and will have a gasket.
