SPRL V1-3P-C way fuel valve with conforming selector05-11464

Overview

After a long development process, here's a completely new family of Fuel Valves. Hi-Tech Seals give easy operation and are suitable for all current fuels. The simplicity promises a long reliable life.

The SPRL-V1 is a three/four way fuel selector offering left-off-right and both if required. There are 90 degrees between selections and the absence of a lower fitting reduces the depth required.

These English fuel valves have some great features that make them better than the rest. Ceramic disks have no soft moving/rubbing seals to wear out, unlike other valves but also give an 'indefinite' life with a very smooth light action. The lift and turn selector is instinctive, secure, and easier to use than the complex 'lift button' type. The locking detents avoid accidental movements. The fixings match most installations, and the internal ports prevent cross feeds, unless 'selected to 'Both'. Male AN fittings enable you to plumb straight into the aeroplane system with no extra fittings to buy. The lightweight alloy construction is anodized for protection; the Viton 0 ring seals are suitable for all current fuels. For experimental aircraft only.

Please note that the accessories listed below are the the only compatible accessories; other standard accessories will not fit these valves.

FAR 23
The SPRL Valves, as designed, have a very nice 'feel' and are logical in use, however, there is a requirement in FAR 23 whereby the fuel valve must be turned from OFF to an ON selection simply by turning it, i.e. it should not have to be lifted up, pushed down etc, and it should also not be possible to turn it from an ON position to OFF without a dent. See V1/V3/V4 valves with a 'conforming' selector.

I purchased the V1-3-P-C (P/N 05-11464) in Nov 2024. Mine has 13.06.2019 stamped on the side. So far, it looks like a really nice valve. Ill describe some of the finer points here that arent fully explained in the description, in the hopes it helps someone else in the planning stage: 1. The description says no extra fittings to buy, but thats only true for most customers, if you happen to have AN6 fuel lines (3/8). The box included 3x AN6 fittings. 2. The lift and turn is not referring to pulling the red handle straight up, but rather tilting/tipping it by lifting at the pointer. 3. Even though this 3-way valve that does not have a labeled both position, placing the pointer between L and R will (a) allow fuel to freely flow between L and R tanks, and (b) allow engine to feed from both L and R tanks simultaneously. DISCLAIMER: If your aircraft supports having a BOTH position, then just go get the correct 4-way valve. Dont rely on this side feature for in-flight use. However, its nice to know that if I overfill a tank, theres a way to let it flow over to the other side rather than spilling onto the ground. 4. When the arrow on the handle is pointing at L, then the fuel port that is directly below that L really is the one allowed fuel to the engine, and the port below the R is fully blocked. I mention this because Ive seen some fuel valves the exact opposite, requiring the lines to be criss-crossed. This one is aligned as youd expect: the port that faces the LH fuel tank can be routed directly to that tank.

I bought a V1-4-P-C to upgrade the fuel system on a Zenith CH750 STOL. We had a major problem with the output port leaking around the fitting -- after replacing the fitting with a new one and trying a few other things, we ran out of ideas. I contact Newton about this and they shipped a new valve right away. Swapped it out and no more leaks. On very close inspection, it appears to have have possibly been from a very slight machining error on the valve body preventing the o-ring on the fitting from seating far enough. I couldnt be more happy with Netwons customer service and will absolutely be buying Newton valves in the future. Its a rare thing to find that level of customer service anymore.

It is a beautiful valve. Spruce however, needs to update their description. They say Fittings must be purchased separately. So I bought separate fittings, only to find out they are included with the valve. So now I have to waste my time and theirs returning them. I am going to make Spruce pay for the return shipping. Please update your item description. Fittings ARE included!

Did not use returned, because I ordered the wrong part. My mistake, misread the description. AS quickly provided return instructions and its on the way back to their warehouse.

I selected the 4-way non-conforming SPRL valve on my personal customized Sportsman, N11YM with over over 300 hours use by 7/11/16. For you kit aircraft builders that want excellent quality with attractive pricing, I believe Robins valve is the best bang for the buck on the market. Awesome piece of engineering! Operates very smoothly with a good positive selector lock at indent positions. The standard AN fittings saved a lot of money as compared to other fuel selectors and also allowed installation in very tight space without need for selector handle extension or other complicated modifications. Also received excellent and friendly support from manufacturer. Thank you!

Q: I want to be confirmed if this NEWTON SPRL VI-4P WAY FUEL VALVE has 4 positions. One closed-all tanks(off), one left tank open (only), one position both (left and right tank simultaneously open) and one position right tank open. Is this correct?

Yes, this is the correct description of the 4-way valve, part # 05-04451. Off, Left Only, Right Only, and Both.

Q: Does the SPRL fuel valve, (05-04451), come with fittings or do they have to be bought separately?

These are shipped with the valve only. It does not include any fittings in the package. You will need to purchase fittings separately, 05-04452 (NEWTON SPRL FITTING AN6 MALE) and 05-04453 (NEWTON SPRL FITTING AN8 MALE).

Q: What are the dimensions of the v1-3p valve, width and depth?

Width of top is 2.75" (widest part), Depth is 2.4".

Q: Can you explain the difference between the New SPRL V1-4P and V1-4P-C?

The difference between the two is a conforming selector will have an indentation when you turn the knob and a non-conforming selector will not have an indentation but instead you will have to lift the top selector to turn it to a different selection.

Q: Need to verify the sequence of valve, on a floor mount, left is left, forward is both-to engine, right is right tank then twd Back is off away from engine? Pictures look like off is forward.

This does not have a both position. The SPRL V1-4P will have a both position.

Q: To clarify the SPRL V1-4P-C part number 05-11465 is a right, left and both valve the has a click stop at each position? And no special lifting needs to be done to move to a new position?

That is correct, this will have a conforming selector that you will feel when you change positions. No special fitting is required to change its position.

Q: Can the -3P valves be moved from left to/from right positions without going through the off position?

Yes, the valve can be moved fronm left to right without going through off.

Q: On the SPRL V1-3P when the pointer is at the 12-oclock position between L and R, what is the behavior of the fuel flow?

In the 12 o'clock position, feed would come from both tanks L & R.

Q: Do any of the these work with a fuel injected engine that requires sperate fuel return lines to the tanks?

No, these will not work in a fuel injected system.

Q: When the V1-4-P-C NEWTON SPRL VALVE is placed in the OFF detent position does it prevent crossflow between the left and right tanks of a high wing aircraft?

When the V1 valve is in the off position there should be no crossflow between tanks.
