Overview

The GHA 15 height advisor offers above-ground-level (AGL) altitude reference at a cost-effective price. It brings radar-based accuracy, aural callouts and visual height indication to pilots of experimental and light sport aircraft equipped with Garmin G3X Touch™ Experimental displays.

Digital Height Advisories: Like other radar-based systems, the GHA 15 height advisor works by transmitting radio waves downward from your aircraft. When the signal is reflected from the surface, the system determines the precise height by using the time delay it takes to receive the signals back.

An All-In-One Module: The compact GHA 15 module is slightly larger than a deck of cards and weighs less than a pound (0.45 kg). The antenna and radar transceiver are built in to the unit, making for easy installation on the underside of you aircraft.

Digital Display Options: The GHA 15 module is compatible with the G3X Touch flight displays to provide visual height advisory readouts.

Audible Height Callouts: Starting at 300 AGL, pilots who have the GHA 15 audio outputs connected will hear altitude callouts at select intervals down to 1 above the surface. These callouts are user-configurable as to how long the prompts go.

Advance Processing: The GHA 15 height advisor can intelligently process hundreds of altitude measurements per second and apply advance digital filters to maintain an accurate continuous reading of your AGL Altitude.

Peace-of-Mind Technology: An affordable solution for experimental and light sport aircraft, the GHA 15 height advisor leverages proprietary Garmin signal processing technology to provide a smooth-tracking AGL altitude reference, even in challenging terrain environments.

Reviews

This was an easy installation add-on to my RV-10s G3X system, though it has an unusual milspec round connector with 22 pin locations, of which the GHA-15 uses only 5 (CAN HI and LO, Power, Ground, and Signal ground which connects to the CAN shield drain wire). It also has long nonstandard crimp connector pins. Once a suitable location can be found on the aircraft belly -- there are YT videos showing how to do this -- the physical installation and patching into an existing CAN bus backbone is easy and only takes a few hours. The performance is great, and the countdown audio of height above touchdown really focuses ones attention on making precise landings. The AGL display is also useful on takeoff for judging impossible turn altitudes on climbout. A big plus is that this low power radar (less than 1 amp draw) uses the 24GHz K band as opposed to certified radio altimeters that use 4 GHz band, since there is none of the 5G cell tower interference that afflicts the certified equipment. It just works. All in all, quite a nice addition to a G3X system.

Q: I would buy this GHA 15, if it is possible to connect it with a certified G3A touch. Is that possible?

The GHA 15 is currently being sold exclusively for experimental aircraft installations.

Q: What is the minimum height that the GHA 15 radar can determine? What is the measurement error up to 10 feet?

Altitude Accuracy: +/- 1.5 ft (3-100 ft AGL), +/- 2% (>100 - 500 ft AGL)

Altitude Range: 0 - 500 ft AGL

Q: Does this Garmin GHA 15 come with the mounting and attachment kit?

Yes. It does come with mounting hardware and a connector kit.

Q: Can this GHA 15 interface with a stand alone G5?

No the GHA requires the G3X Touch system.

Q: Can this Garmin GHA 15 interface with Garmin AERA 760 and G5?

No, this is a non FAA PMA approved item and only works with the G3X.

Q: Is it possible to connect the GHA 15 with another device, instead of the G3X Touch system?

No, per Garmim this is only compatible with the G3X system.
