I use this filter on my 1978 Piper Aztec - equipped with two naturally aspirated Lycoming IO 540s. I also use the Tempest filter - AA48108-2 in my 1976 C150M, equipped with a Continental 0200. I like the Tempest Filter. It doesn’t require lubing the base filter gasket - in fact Tempest instructs to apply nothing to this base gasket prior to installation. To date, there has been no problem removing these filters when changing the oil. I do use the applicable Tempest tools for removal and installation - and especially the torque wrench that is pre-loaded to ‘click’ when the new filter is properly tightened, but not over-tightened prior to safety wiring it. Tempest is a good brand. I like them.

It’s a personal preference, I like Tempest spin ez. Removing oil filter made a little less effort. Change oil every 25 hrs on Exxon Mobil 20w-50 on TIO540. Oil analysis was good. Oil filter is doing its job.

Its an oil filter what can I say, it fits behind the engine because it is really short, damn messy to get out of there even after the oil is drained. The Tempest ones have a magnet in them and they get out a lot of the really fine FE particles.

No issues. Change oil every 40-50 hours using Aeroshell 15-50 for 12 years and 1600 hours on 0320 E2D engine. I like Tempest but have also used Champion. Personal preference and the internal magnet on Tempest makes logical sense.

I have been using Tempest filters for many years. During COVID,, there was a shortage and when the supply chain caught up, Tempest had gotten rid of the magnet which was a great feature. Because of this, I can’t give the filter 5 stars. I still prefer Tempest products, but am disappointed by Tempest leaving out this important addition.

I have always used these filters and replace them every 50 hrs. I change oil every 25 hrs.

Great filter for what a filter does on a 2002 C172R. The EZ Spin is not EZ. I torqued it to the manufacturers specifications as printed on the filter and I bent the filter fitting getting it off. Ive since gone back to DC4 on the seal.

Im not real sure about the EZ Spin. I torque the filter to the manufacturers specification and it still takes quite a bit of torque to get it off. I actually cant tell if it filters any worse or any better than the competition. Its definitely cheaper.

Must be great. Costs enough. Glad the supply chain backup is over.

They advertise these as being easy to remove, but Ive found the exact opposite to be true. I dont think epoxy would make them harder to remove, and I use the calibrated Tempest filter wrench so as not to overtighten. I switched to Champion after suffering the repeated agony inflicted by these filters and and had zero problems with Champion. Unfortunately Champion filters are seemingly gone forever so I will regretfully go back to using these.

Prices are too high like everything else and it took four months to receive. Whatever the problem it needs resolved

Ive used these good quality oil filters for many years. My only complaint is the ridiculous high prices were forced to pay. Granted, Champion charges even higher prices. Thats why I bought the Tempest. If Kelly was still around, theyd have my business back, hands down. Give us a break retailers. And we wonder why GA continues its down hill run.

Bought 2 of these 48110-2 for my O-320 based on an ACS answer to a customer question that it was the same as a Champion 48110-1 filter. I had always previously used the Champions but decided to save a couple of bucks. Bad move. The Champion rim is slightly smaller than the canister diameter and fits well while the Tempest is slightly larger. Large enough that it hits the line to the oil cooler directly under the filter. I have a straight filter adapter and the Tempest does not fit. Only if you have an angled adapter, does the Tempest fit.

I installed this filter per instructions, with no lubricant on the rubber gasket and torqued to 16-18 ft. lbs. 50 hours later, Im unable to unscrew it. Ive worked for two days using every tool in my arsenal and its still stuck fast. If I ever use these again, I WILL be lubricating the rubber gasket with DC-4 and only tightening to contact plus 3/4 turn. I am not happy.
