Overview

The first volume of Iowa Takes to the Air (1845-1918) was published in 1980. Iowans saw an unmanned balloon ascension in 1845 and later witnessed an exciting array of manned balloon ascensions, flights of dirigible-type airship, and parachute jumps. Beginning with the first aero plane flight in 1910, Iowans watched pilots fly at many exhibitions. This book is a lively account of those early years.
