In this rapidly changing world of electronics, our industry is being bombarded by new innovative features from flat screen monitors to digitally enhanced audio systems. Our latest products, headsets and intercoms, have had a cell phone interface added so that you can communicate on the ground using your headset or have your cell phone as a back-up for a radio failure.
I bought this unit to replace an old earlier model which quit working. The new unit works fine, and was easy to install. The added feature of being able to plug in a cell phone is very useful. Before I got this unit, I was unable to make phone calls from my plane due to the high noise level.
Be aware this unit will not work in a 2 stroke Rotax powered ultralight. The high-pitched whine of the engine will overload the VOX circuitry, and you will not be able to communicate with your passenger. Works great, however, in regular four stroke powered aircraft.
It worked for a few days, then left me in a bad spot. After I had it next day aired so Id have an intercom:-( Pilot and passenger cant communicate, and only pilot can transmit. Put fresh batteries in same result. I will try to return it.
Per the manufacture they recommend the PA-50 11-07712. This will go inline between the headset and the intercom and the mic/headphone plugs from the intercom will plug directly into the panel. If you want the direct plug in you can try the Sigtronics PTT part number 11-02806.
