The battery pack is as expected and just what I needed. It would be nice if the FAA realized the obsolescence of the required replacement interval and did something about it. The battery pack uses 6 Duracells, which have a much longer life than batteries from the era when the replacement interval was established. The new pack tested at just under 9.5V, and the 2-year-old one I replaced tested at just over 9.5V. I doubt well get any relief, as the universe of legacy 121.5 ELTs is shrinking and not favored anyway.

The first battery I received did not work. The voltage was only 8 volts, while the old battery I was removing had 9.5 volts. The new battery did not have enough power to put out a signal on the ELT. It was removed and the old battery put back in. This is the first time in 20 batteries that I have had a problem with the battery. A new battery was sent and worked fine and the bad battery was returned. I noticed the batteries in the new units are Chinese Duracell batteries rather than U.S. batteries.

Price for what you get, seems overpriced. Replacement battery had same voltage as the one I replaced, Manufacture date July 2020, sticker date NOV. I question the need for a two year replacement date. But I also know that is FAA

I can’t give this a higher rating because it is only used in an emergency. It is required in my ELT which is only used in an emergency.

I discovered that my BP-1045 battery failed more than a year too early during my recent annual inspection. The ELT had not run other than being tested, but the battery pack was only putting out 7.5 Volts (should be 9) and the ELT would not broadcast during the test. I suspect one of the alkaline cells failed. I called, the MERL rep was friendly and offered to ship me a replacement but I already had a new one on order from Spruce, and they dont do returns for the battery packs. MERL was not willing to give me credit on my bad battery (pro rated would have been fine, I did get almost a year out of it). If you use these batteries, you should probably check your ELTs more frequently than normal.

This battery has increased in price by 3times since the last time I purchased one. 5 AA batteries haven’t changed that much.
