Overview

Flying in busy skies, or in remote areas means that many pilots want to exploit the visibility and safety that ADS-B provides. ADS-B In traffic receivers, used in general aviation today, allow a pilot to view ADS-B Out equipped aircraft on a cockpit display. The TN72 meets the position requirements of FAR 91.227 and can be used by Light Sport and Experimental aircraft in the U.S. to meet the 2020 ADS-B mandate. The TN72 is a highly affordable solution when used in combination with a Trig transponder.

A TN72 will be visible across all ADS-B In traffic platforms. By installing a TN72 with your Trig transponder you will have a certified collision avoidance safety benefit – that’s easy to install and proven to work with Trig transponders.

The TN72 is an attractive and practical GPS position source. It meets the FAA’s TSO-C199 certification standard for a Traffic Awareness Beacon System, known as TABS for short. Trig’s TN72 supports current and future air to air collision avoidance and situational awareness applications. This enhanced visibility can be useful for tracking club aircraft in real time, improving safety in the circuit and reducing the risk of air-to-air collision.

In the U.S. to receive a full traffic service from ADS-B ground stations, aircraft must be ADS-B Out equipped. The TN72 is well suited to soaring or glider pilots, with a Trig transponder a full traffic service will be triggered (an ADS-B traffic receiver is required). However, certified aircraft can also use the TN72 as a highly cost effective way to trigger traffic information outside of 2020 airspace.

Reviews

Very quick delivery. Be careful with coax fitting, I messed mine up and have difficulty finding a replacement.

Q&A

Q: What antenna is required for the TN72?

Part # 11-14354 is the recommended antenna for the TN72.

Q: Can the TN72 be used as the ADS-B GPS position source for ADS-B out requirements?

Yes, this is the primary function of this unit.

Q: How is the TN72 different than the TN70, and are they both compatible with the TT22?

The TN72 meets position requirements of FAR 91.227 for Experimental and Light Sport – 2020 compliance in U.S, as well as all gliders . The TN70 is a solution for certified aircraft. Both are compatible with the TT22.

Q: Will this Trig TN72 receiver work with the TT21 as well?

The TT21 does not meet the wattage output necessary to work with the TN72.

Q: Is this a WAAS GPS? If so will it work with other Mode S transponders to meet 2020 ADS-B out Compliance ?

Yes, the TN72 is a WAAS GPS. It is intended to be used with the Trig transponder.

Q: Where does the Trig TN72 receiver display Traffic? Can it overlay onto a Foreflight, Dynon and GRT Efis moving maps?

This is an ADS-B OUT solution and will not display traffic. You will need an ADS-B IN solution. Please look at our portable ADS-B options we have.

Q: What is the correct TNC connector for this unit in case I have to redo it?

The connector needed for this unit is a QMA coaxial connector.

Q: Will the TN72 work with Beckers BXP6401 and/or BXP6402 Mode S Transponders?

No, the TN72 will not work with Becker transponders.

Q: Will the TN72 work with the TC20 P/N 00649-00 to meet ADS-B? If not, is there an alternate item from Trig that will.

The TN72 will work with the TT22 transponder which uses the TC20 remote box. If you have a certified aircraft, you will need the TN70.

Q: Will the TN72 work as WAAS GPS to Garmin GTX 330ES transponder to meet 2020 ADS-B out compliance (for experimental)?

Those two units are not compatible with each other.
