I purchased this to use on an experimental after installing a GTX-327 and not realizing that the original monopole antenna was not compatible with the 327. This one had the quickest shipping of all blade antennas on aircraft spruce. red tail or E05 would have worked fine otherwise. This antenna passed the transponder test on the first attempt.

Was wanting to purchase Comants Experimental version of this Transponder Antenna but there was a long waiting time so I opted for this more expensive certified model. At $160 think it’s bloody mean of Comant to NOT include the washers and nuts for installation.

Q: Will the Comant DME/Transponder CI-105 work with the Becker mode C transponder?

Yes the CI-105 is a standard transponder antenna and can be used for both mode C & S transponders.

Q: Is the connector on the antenna a female BNC connector?

Yes, it is a female BNC. You will need to order a male BNC based on what type of coax cable you use (either RG 142 or RG 58).

Q: What is the minimum recommended separation distance between the two aerials.

Typically 3 feet is a good distance between antennas.

Q: Do you need a ground plate for this Comant CI-105 antenna? Which size?

Yes all antennas need a ground plate. Normally the height of the antenna should be the diameter of the ground plate but larger is better.

Q: Will this antenna work with a Trig TT22, and do I need to make a ground plane or can I buy one? Is all the mounting hardware included?

Yes, this antenna is compatible with all aviation transponders. The ground plane can be as simple as foil tape part number 11-12900. Hardware not included, only gasket.

Q: I am installing a Garmin GDL-88D with diversity, meaning it uses 2 antennas, one on the bottom of the fuselage and one on the top. Is this Comant CI-105 antenna approved and suitable for use on the top of the fuselage?

No. This antenna is meant for use on the bottom of the fuselage only.

Q: Can this antenna (CI 105) P/N 11-17965 be used with GTX345 transponder? Also, I do not see the required gasket P/N?

Yes, this unit can be used with all transponders and is approved by Garmin for usage with the GTX345. It includes the required gasket.

Q: According to the GDL-82 installation manual, this antenna is approved, but not recommended for new installations. If I have this antenna on my AC, do I have to replace it to install a new GDL-82?

No, you do not need to replace it. This statement is more for builders who currently do not have an antenna.

Q: Will the Comant DME/Transponder CI-105 work with the Garmin 23 ES Transponder?

Yes, part # 11-17965 will work with the Garmin 230 ES.

Q: Will this work with ADS-B in/out? Comant seems to recommend the CI 105-17-L. But Garmin does not list. Im using GTX-345 R WAAS on GTN 750.

Yes, this will work for your GTX 345 per the manual.
