Author Details

  • Jason Blair is an active single- and multi-engine certified flight instructor, the 2016 Michigan CFI of the Year and the 2023 Michigan FAA Safety Team Representative of the Year, a five-time NAFI Master Flight Instructor, and a FAA Designated Pilot Examiner for both Part 61 and Part 141 training providers. He has more than 5,000 hours total time and more than 3,000 hours of instruction given; has flown more than 100 different makes and models of general aviation aircraft; and has issued more than 2,500 pilot certificates in his role as an examiner.
  • Blair writes for multiple aviation publications and works for and with aviation associations that promote training and general aviation. He has served as the executive director of the National Association of Flight Instructors, has been a part of multiple aviation rulemaking committee efforts, and has served on numerous other committees including but not limited to the FAA’s Runway Safety Council, the General Aviation Joint Safety Committee, the TSA Aviation Safety Advisory Council, NATA’s Flight Training Committee, and others. Currently, he continues to work for a variety of companies focusing on flight training regulations, procedures, and safety as a writer and consultant.
  • Blair is also the author of four books in ASA’s Aviator’s Field Guide series: Buying an Airplane, Owning an Airplane, Tailwheel Flying, and Middle-Altitude Flying.
