These are ideal for mounting mic and audio jacks, either surface mounted or recessed. First off, enlarge the jack holes if necessary, with a correctly sized step drill. If you find that the angle of the installed jack will not allow the plug to be inserted, simply use a punch, inserted into the jack, to slightly bend the jack outward to allow the plug to be inserted without interference. When surface mounting, a hole large enough to insert a jack, must be drilled. This will be hidden when the housing is attached to the panel. If you flush mount the housing, cut a square hole in the panel, JUST large enough to allow the body of the housing to drop in, leaving the rim of the housing on the surface of the panel. These are extremely handy items due to their versatility. Just have to use some imagination.

I am not sure about the other low reviews on this product. Put in one two-jack and one four-jack in the back of a cabin Waco for a PS 3000 system. Jacks fit perfect and easy to install. Bought the aluminum one and powder coated to match. NO issues.

There are many variety of this housing with different hole designs check with AS. Also the connectors can be first installed in housing then can be easily be bent for wiring or desired plug angles.

Does what it needs - simple. Basic. I ended up having to use a step-bit to ream out the holes for the jacks. I needed to go up a size to accommodate the insulating washers. Not a big deal. I also drilled out 4 corners so I could use sheet metal screws to surface mount these.

As others have stated, to use the shoulder washers, one has to modify (increase) the hole size. Not a big deal, but shouldnt be required.

Lightweight and attractive, this housing would be 5 stars if one of the holes was large enough to properly mount the mic jack without grounding it to the jack. As received, both holes are the correct size to mount a phone jack. Mounting holes have to be drilled for surface mounting.

The pre drilled holes do not fit common jacks, they had to each be drilled out in order accommodate the jacks. Other than that the housing is pretty decent quality.

bought black, its painted aluminum. holes didnt fit jacks, and the aluminum grounded the plugs. spend all day trying to isolate the jack plugs. Buy plastic ones.

This product has to be modified before you can use it. Both of the holes are the same size. Maybe there is logic behind why it is made this way but it is a tremendous pain to modify in the field. It is difficult to enlarge a hole in sheet aluminum after it has been drilled initially.

I can use the housing with the jacks mounted in the recessed section which is opposite what the instructions show. A standard head set jack will not slide into the jack the way the instructions show. They would work great if the angle where the jacks mount was changed

As others have said this will not work in the recessed position because the headset Male jack is too long and this piece is too short to make the needed straight in approach. I have used these in the past for recessed apps and worked fine. What would be the benefit of a surface mount and having this piece now sticking above the side panel or what ever to be caught by your shirt, cargo, another chord, or ?
