The Early Model Lycoming Fuel Pump
(40174/40295 low pressure, 40595 medium pressure, 40296 high pressure)
In the spring of 1964, AC introduced the first dual diaphragm type fuel pumps. These pumps were the first models to incorporate the oil seal integral with the upper diaphragm and a separator ring for installation of the vent / overboard drain line. These pumps are characterized by a rocker arm which is an early riveted, laminated design. Current production in Lycoming pumps will not fit some pre-1978 applications without expensive modifications. You can eliminate the need for these modifications by ordering an FAA Approved overhauled early model pump for direct replacement.
The Late Model Lycoming Fuel Pump
During August of 1978, AC introduced what is now known as the "late model" fuel pump which has a "channeled" rocker arm. This pump is taller than the early laminated arm pump and has a unitized diaphragm assembly. Because of its increased size some pre-1978 model aircraft require expensive and time consuming modifications to carburetors or accessory housings (ref: Lycoming Service Inst. No. 1110C). These modifications are not required if our smaller, early model laminated fuel pumps are installed on your aircraft.
OVERHAULED LYCOMING FUEL PUMPS
All internal parts are replaced with new certified parts. The actuating arms are magnetic particle test inspected; cast parts are inspected for wear, corrosion and cracks. Both the older laminated and newer channel style fuel pumps are overhauled for normally aspirated, pressure carburetor, and fuel injected systems.
Note: Customer will need to provide core for overhaul in the event our supplier does not have cores available to overhaul. Additional core charge will apply. Please add pump to cart to see current applicable core charge.

Exactly as described. Perfect fit for my customers O-235-L2C. The application charts are a bit confusing so I had to call Tempest, but otherwise great product.
Very nicely packaged. Unit came with a gasket. I wasnt sure so i ordered another one. Looked new worked as advertised.
$30 fuel pump with a $400 piece of paper, suitable for framing. Works as expected. Its aviation.
took way too long to receive part. over a week, but packed well and part perfect.
The overhauled pump is performing as it should.
Replaced one leaking oil out witness pipe pump that was six months and 60 hours out of the box. Second replacement was leaking oil from witness tube within first flight. Now installing a third one within 6 months.
First pump failed on startup, arm broke and fell into pan. Gus at Tempest said a common failure due to improper installation that often damages drive mechanism and can crack case. Second pump started right up and operates normally. Fortunately we were able to fish out broken arm from oil pan with magnet.
Installed an overhauled pump and within 20hrs it started leaking oil from the witness pipe. Replaced with another one and fuel is just passing straight through so now we need another one...
Yes, pump 41271 comes with a new gasket.
Yes, it is in the box attached to the paperwork inside.
Yes, the 8130-3 airworthiness approval form is included in the box with these fuel pumps.
These are both low pressure pumps but they are not interchangeable as they both have different applications.
It comes with gasket pn# 60096.
It is always recommended to double check with your engine parts manual to verify what part number you are needing for your application. The LW indicates that it is an original Lycoming part number.
