I’m surprised by the recent reviews mentioning poor quality. I’ve had a 12 oz GATS Jar for over 20 years, with never a problem. It’s only distinguishable from new by the printing worn off the bottle by using it hundreds of times. Perhaps there has been a change in the product that causes problems with the newer ones. I probably bought it from Spruce, but it was so long ago I don’t remember. Spruce may not be able be “verify” me as a purchaser, but I can verify that I bought it somewhere!

Great product, however one must be careful not to over tighten the screw on lid. I must have done that because mine split down the side of the cap.

Works as one would expect. Easy to see water and contaminants. Great for those states where pouring 100LL on the ground is a crime.

Fuel jar allows for taking large samples which is good for removing debris from tanks. Easy to clean out if there is contamination, such as water or paint chips. Other testers are difficult to wipe out.

This hands down amazing! I was dealing with drips from my sample ports and I noticed some contamination in the old non-GATS sampler and figured I should try GATS to catch and remove the contamination. Sure enough, GATS caught a bunch of crap! I choose not to throw out samples and this tool makes it easy! Excellent product!

Thumbs down. Only 5 star reviews go on top so beware - 1 star review here - these are such poor quality Compared to the older ones. A year of use and the o-ring has failed, the thin walls have buckled and its so sad that they no longer have the “spout” indent in the rim. Fuel does go everywhere unlike the original. I’m not bothering with trying to replace the o-ring, I’m going to find something better.

I am really happy with the gats fuel tester. Its nice to take a large sample especially when you do have contamination. It also feels good not wasting fuel and making a mess by dumping avgas on the ground. Yes the older one sounds nicer with thicker plastic and a pour spout, but this one works fine. Dont let that scare you away, this is the best tester I have used when fuel quality is concerned.

Very fast delivery from Spruce Aircraft for the Gats fuel sampler. Well made, easy to use and pleased to no longer be pouring avgas on the ground.

I decided to try this gats jar so I could reduce my fuel wastage and I am happy to say that I works just as advertized with straining the fuel. I havent had any water in my fuel to try that part out but am confident that will work as well.

Im not sure what I expected, but the jar is larger than I thought it would be. I am so used to a tiny fuel sampler that it just seemed overly big. However, it is crystal clear and makes the visual inspection for water and contaminants so much easier than my old, cloudy fuel sampler. The screen is easy to clear out after returning fuel to the tanks. The jar came with a crimp/crease in it, no leaks, just a blemish on a brand new device.

Container is light weight plastic but unit does what its supposed to do. I would buy again.

O-ring wore out, I contacted the company and theyre sending me a replacement under warranty. No questions asked.

I definitely like this product and recommend. I purchased mine a year ago 01/2025 and the lid cracked/disintegrated within the first 3 months but was still usable. I contacted General Aero Specialties LLC directly about a replacement as this has been documented as a manufacturing issue. Aero Specialties is the manufacturer of the GATS jar but aircraft spruce will not disclose that information. Contact them and they will send out a replacement. They were responsive and prompt sending out a replacement.

I like this product but this is the third one Im ordering due to the top cracking. As others have mentioned, it appears to be poor quality plastic being used for the top. I dropped the first one I received so thought thats why it cracked. The second one has never been dropped or over tighten and still cracked along what appears to be slightly different color plastic, perhaps density variation?

The GATS jar is great and works good. Bought two for our flying club as replacements for old dirty damaged ones. The plastic used for jars feels thinner and cheaper. I am a little disappointed by this.

Container is a bit flimsy, thought I was going to warp or tear it when uncapping it. The rim isnt designed for pouring, i.e. doesnt have a lip that has a pour spout.

The lid on mine cracked in the first three months of having it. Always stored inside a hanger. I read there was some bad plastic received by the manufacturer.

Plastic lid eventually cracks around threads, then leaks fuel when pouring back into tank. Have bought two, each lasted about 9 months before cracking. They were not abused or overtightened. Design needs to be improved.

Leaks, cracks... They need to improve the design/materials... I still use it, but now put a rag down to catch the slow drip of fuel while Im pouring it back into my tank.

I tried to replace a lost Gats with identical unit. It is just like many others said -- the clear jar is now much thinner than before. I did not realize how thin the walls are until today when I used it for the second time. When I reached into the cabin, I found that the jar is deformed from just sitting just one afternoon in the cabin on the ramp. The jar was on the floor -- not up in the glare shield. Now the jar leans to side when sitting. I dont expect this purchase will last long.

This new version of the Gats jar is awful. They got rid of the indented spout in the upper ring, so now when you go to pour fuel back into the tank it goes everywhere. Additionally, the jar itself is now made with much thinner plastic. It feels like you could break it just by squeezing. I highly recommend finding one of the older Gats jars. Do not give this company your money for such a terrible regression in product quality.

Just got the new GATs Jar and it feels like a plastic water bottle its so thin now unlike the last 2 or 3 that I have bought for different airplanes. Like everything, they figured out a way to make it cheaper and less durable. I compared it to one I have had for years and what a difference.

Plastic lid cracked in less than 3 months.

The strainer assembly is cheap plastic that cracks easily. Mine has a crack running through the side from normal use. Now fuel can spill out the side. The clear cup is ok but others have mentioned it is flimsy. I would avoid this product since the quality is just not there for the price.

Im not happy with this jar. The length of the pin allows too much fuel to splatter out onto my hand. And when I go to put the inspected fuel back into there is no spout to direct the fuel and invariably some of it gets on the wing. The best thing about it is the filter screen. That does seem to do its job. But I am moving to another fuel sampler.
