Works great to replace the defective original rheostats in my Cessna 150L. Something worth noting -- the slightest bit of panel modification was needed to make them fit in the original space (about 20 seconds with a dremel and done).
Another MAXDIM product for me. I used the DUODIM for dash lights and overhead but do not like dash lights and EI gauges controlled by same line. So I purchased this singe dimmer and it is controlling ALL my EI gauges. This way I have more control over lighting intensities, dash vs EI.
While the STC covered my Aztec, the unit as sold did not replace the original system completely. The factory system when selected ON, opens a circuit to the landing gear lights, fixing them in dim (as opposed to diming them with the rheostat). I suspect that this is a Part 23 requirement so that you dont dim the landing gear position lights all the way down. I reached out to Seaton Engineering (manufacturer of MaxDim) but got no response. Eventually, I installed a DPDT switch to supply an On/Off circuit to the MaxDim and a circuit for the gear light dimming. I noted this on the 337 as a minor deviation to the STC. Mounting was straight forward however the neck of the dimmer pot could be a little longer. My installation went through the switch panel and an overlay panel and I barely had enough threads left to secure it with the washer and nut. Otherwise, this is a great solution for the antiquated dimmer control on the PA23 and cost about 1/2 what I could find an as removed unit for.

This dimmer is solid state.
Per the MFG. - they are PWM and have passed the DO-160 (EMI noise) testing required by the FAA.
Yes this dimmer can be used on both. Plug and play.
Some Garmin units have internal PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) dimming circuits. If these units have internal PWM dimming and it cannot disabled, you should not hook it up to our dimmer. It is not good practice to use one PWM dimmer to dim another unit using its own PWM dimming. If the Garmin unit does not have internal PWM dimming or if it does but the internal PWM dimming can be disabled, then the unit should work fine with our dimmer.
We always recommend confirming in the Garmin manual before installing or trying any subcomponent.
