Bell Helicopter was originally founded in Buffalo, New York in 1935 as Bell Aircraft Corporation by Lawrence Bell. Bell was originally focused on the development of fighter aircraft for military purposes, introducing models such as the Airacuda, Airacobra, and the first American fighter jet, called the Airacomet. However in 1941, Bell with the help of innovator Arthur Young, began research on Helicopters, flying their first model, the Bell 30, in 1942. Later models, such as the Bell 47 and the UH-1, better known as the Huey, were critical components in military operations. Bell continues operations today creating a wide variety of both commercial and military aircraft including many of the tour helicopters used to tour Hawaii's beautiful landscape |
