E-Drive aircraft starters offer industry-leading, robust, high duty cycle starters in a lightweight package. By utilizing a powerful neodymium permanent motor driven though a self-resetting negative torque-sensing device, the E-Drives provides unparalleled kickback protection, preventing hours of down time and replacement costs. The E-Drive aircraft starter is solenoid engaged, eliminating the need for a Bendix drive. Its low current draw helps maintain good battery life.

Robert probably has a solenoid issue. Change starter solenoid.
I replaced the tired old starter in my 161 Warrior with the ERZ-8011 E-Drive unit. Wow - what a difference! The cranking rpm is vigorous, but not excessive. Starting is now effortless. Its much lighter, beautifully built and fits perfectly. I could have spent less, but I couldnt be happier with my choice.
The starter fit with no modifications other than sliding the cable back a few inches. Its about nine pounds lighter than the Delco. Spins the engine over quickly and appears to be well made. Nice unit.
Absolutely amazing starter. It required some baffle modification for a 172M, but otherwise fit perfectly. It is very powerful for its size - cranks the engine like it had no compression in it. Great replacement for the old Delco or Prestolite starters. Very impressed.
Drop in install in an Arrow II. Mongo torque. Expensive, hope that it lasts.
Aircraft Spruce was awesome on shipping and customer support as always. The only complaint I have with the ERZ-8011 starter is that the new replacement that now is being manufactured by Hartzell comes with an external power jumper that comes out of the bottom of the housing and attaches to the power terminal. The old starter manufactured by Kelly Aerospace did not have this jumper. The fitment between the starter and my muffler was already very tight, and the addition of the jumper on the bottom of the starter created some problems with installation. Other than that, starter is as advertised and cranks very well.
Purchased starter in 10/2017. in 1/2018 the starter would intermittently engage the starter ring. When the problem happened, it took three times to engage the starter to the starter ring. Returned unit to Spruce and starter was sent to Hartzell who reported no trouble found. I will not reinstall this starter since it still has a problem and is unreliable.
36 months or 1000 hours, whichever occurs first.
