skyBeacon is a 2020 compliant, near zeroinstall, Class B1S ADS-B UAT transmitter and WAAS GPS integrated into a wing tip position light. The power transcoder decodes replies from legacy Mode C transponders. 14 CFR §91.227 compliant. Smart phone configurable over WiFi. skyBeacon is a revolutionary new way to equip ADS-B. Simply replace your existing navigation light with skyBeacon and you are ADS-B compliant for 2020.
Install in MinutesInstallation is as simple as replacing the aircraft position light.
Simply replace the aircraft position light, that’s it! No airframe modifications or additional antennas are required. Plus, it works with any Mode C or Mode S transponder. skyBeacon installation uses the existing mounting location, breaker and wiring, with 3 screws and 3 wires. The transponder data is provided via the existing aircraft wiring system using the power transcoder.
Just because you are ADS-B equipped, doesn’t mean you want to be tracked. With skyBeacon’s Anonymous Mode, your aircraft identification remains hidden from the ADS-B OUT signal while squawking 1200. Anonymous Mode keeps the skies safe while protecting your privacy.
Self-Contained WAAS GPSA built-in WAAS GPS provides skyBeacon with rule compliant position data for ADS-B transmission. No additional wiring or external GPS antenna mounting is required.
Works with Your Existing Mode C or S TransponderskyBeacon works with any existing transponder. uAvionix’s patented power transcoder technology seamlessly communicates with your existing transponder, any transponder, over your aircraft’s electrical system. tailBeacon and skyBeacon are the only UAT ADS-B OUT devices on the market that work with Mode S transponders.
Instant Setup and ConfigurationMechanically installing skyBeacon is the first easy step. With uAvionix’s mobile app, configuration is just as simple. Our mobile application (available for both Apple iOS and Android) guides your installer through setting the necessary values including the ICAO address, emitter type, aircraft length, width and GPS offsets.
Wingtip AdaptersIf your wingtip or lighting configuration is not supported by skyBeacon, you can purchase a fairing adapter kit for various aircraft.
This was shipped with zero install instructions
Super bright Red wingtip light . Mechanic installed in 20 Minutes. He then Went to SKY BEACON app and entered information etc, and used 35 as sensitivity setting. Faa showed 34 minute flight in C airspace, but Ads-B failed to generate a Complete report for approval. Mechanic was with me at the time of flight. Called support and was told to set sensitivity to 32 on the app. Awaiting next test flight to see what will happen. Will up date soon after second attempt is completed. Hopefully 5 stars.
Installation was simple and delivery was prompt as expected.
Installation was easy to do, remove the old whelen nav light, strobe light and power pack, and attach the wires. I purchased the adaptor for the Cessna 172M for a better fit. I had my son do the app downloads and he was familar with doing a lat / long veification on his smart phone. Did a 337 and W&B change. My son flew the plane and verified the operation with ATC. The only change I did was to use knife connectors rather than butt splices, and inserted plastic tubing over the connectors.
The easiest and quickest setup, as advertised the install takes only 10 minutes. Only drawback is if you don’t have a power switch in your aircraft for strobes and you are planning on turning them on/off by the app you won’t be able to do that in flight. So consider this if you are flying at night in IMC . Here is the video of it installed on my Cherokee 180. https://youtu.be/IN2h0cJcRlg
Ill give it 4 stars for now. Had a couple of setup glitches (mode 3a) and a failed test flight. Another flight will tell. Install a piece of cake.
My 3rd ADSB install and this is the easiest one to install by far compared to a transponder or transponder sensing unit.
Easiest installation of any ADS-B system however know this: On retractable gear aircraft, turning on the nav. lights dimms the gear down lights making them useless in daylight. Rewiring the lighting system controls adds a new level of complexity to the installation.
After considering all the options to meet the FAA ADS-B mandate the Skybeacon seemed to be the easiest and most straight forward option. It truly was a 10 minute installation and less than 5 minutes on my iPad for setup. After first flight downloaded the FAA performance report just as advertised. Worked perfectly. If you can’t install this yourself you should turn in your pilots license. It’s easy, easy, easy.
I ordered the product without doing adequate research. I have a high voltage strobe which would have to be disabled. Also need additional fairing for Cessna 172 which results in more complex install. I returned product before installing and ordered the tail beacon. Aircraft Spruce has been easy to work with. Thanks.
No. Uavionix Skybeacon does not have a matching position light.
Yes, this must be installed and signed off by an A&P.
There is no specific aircraft that goes on a TSO. TSO units will require a 337 form, field approval.
Yes. The Sky Beacon Nav light will work with a KT76A.
Per the manufacturer, this will need to be powered on in order to fully function. This will also allow you to keep your KT 76 as the unit "sniffs" out your transponder signal.
Per the manufacturer, this unit works in conjuction with the altitude encoder and transponder for altitude readings.
Yes, it does.
Per the manufacturer, All skyBeacon products now ship with an LED strobe. Note: Early experimental versions of skyBeacon did not have the strobe installed.
The strobe light is extremely bright and follows the requirements for TSO-C96a
uAvionix products are warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship for one year from the date of installation in the aircraft.
