Overview

These alternator kits are FAA PMA Certified to replace the vast majority of popular general aviation alternators. They include everything you need to replace your current alternator using the existing belt and brackets. Where required, the kit will also include brackets, spacers and hardware.

An alternative to high-priced, marginally-performing, rebuilt used replacement aircraft alternators. These Plane-Power alternators are the product of years of research, development and intensive testing. Each component has been engineered, developed, tested and re-tested exclusively for use in general aviation aircraft. As a result of these efforts, Plane Power alternators offer significant improvements over legacy aircraft alternator offerings including:
    • Generate substantially higher power at lower engine RPMs
    • Generate significantly less heat while producing rated power
    • Generate rated power at typical aircraft cruise RPMS
    • Vastly improved balancing drastically reduces bracket failure
    • Greater reliability for significantly increased service life
    • Weigh up to four pounds less
Plane-Power alternators are warrantied for 2-years against component failures.

Included Hardware May Vary Per Kit

*Aircraft electrical system will be limited by existing wiring and output breaker not to exceed 60 amps. The Plane-Power alternator can produce all 70 amps if proper size wiring and circuit breaker is installed and approved.
**Also, Teledyne Continental alternator installations used a wide variety of V-belts. Plane-Power recommends the use of TCM P/N 539547-32.00 for most installations of AL12-F60 alternators on TCM engines.

Did some research before accepting my A&P recommendation for a rebuilt OEM alternator for my Piper Arrow III. The reviews said a new Plane Power alternator was the better option. My A&P had no objection. But the lower price for a new Plane Power alternator closed the deal. New? Lighter? Better low speed amps? AND less expensive? Don’t see that in general aviation much.

The instruction were missing. Also it cost me $40 dollars to ship my old alternator back of core charge. I purchase a new alternator why do I have to send back a good core.

Great alternator. Only issue, the bolts that were included were wrong for my aircraft’s installation. Fortunately, my AI/AP had a set that were correct.

The product was not an exact fit but after taking the time to figure it out it has been a beast. Would recommend it to anyone that has an extra 20 minutes.

Easy install and worked great on an O-320 H2AD except the old belt, the correct part number for that plane, was just barely long enough as the pulley on the Plane Power alternator is a bit bigger. Manufacturer was puzzled by this. The only solution appears to be a slightly longer belt but dont know if one is available that is PMAd.

Q: Hello, I curious on this alternator AL12-P70, what RPM speed do you need to run this alternator? I am with an OEM for an electrical distribution and we are developing test capabilities and this alternator was mentioned so I need to know how fast a motor needs to run to operate this alternator. Thank you.

The AL12-P70 (07-01001) is considered a Prestolite replacement. The AL12-P70 (reuses some in place Prestolite mounting parts) and the AL12-70 (kit includes all required mounting parts) are primary alternators used on Lycoming Engines. Both are designed to operate at cruse anywhere between 6000 and 9000 alternator RPM. Generally speaking this means the engine RPM would be somewhere between 2000 and max cruse RPM.

Q: Do you need a capacitor for this alternator, or is it built in?

Per the manufacturer: Plane Power alternators do not include capacitor's in their alternators.

Q: I have a 24-Volt Cessna 172N. Will I need the bracket, or will the one for the old DOFF alternator work? Is the AL24-F60 the correct replacement?

Yes, P/N# 07-00999 will work with a Cessna 172N. The bracket is not included in the kit.

Q: Which breaker do I need with alternator AL12-P70?, is 40 Amp OK?

You can use a 70 amp breaker. If your aircraft is rated for 40 amps you may want to keep the 40 amp breaker. There is not one specific breaker that we recommend.

Q: Interested in the AL12-C60 in some pictures they have belts and tensioner bracket where it is slotted to adjust your belt tension and in other pictures there is not. Does this alternator come with the bracket?

No. This does not come with this bracket.

Q: Id like to purchase a AL12-F60C alternator kit for a C180. Does the kit contains all necessary installation brackets? Also is the alternator comes with an internal voltage regulator?

No, this does not include a bracket. You must use the one already installed. No, they do not have internal voltage regulation built in.

Q: Where do I find the weight for Plane Power alternator AL12-C60?

This will be 10.9lbs.

Q: Regarding AL12-F60: Do you need external regulator?

Yes, this is externally regulated.

Q: What is the weight of the AL24-70?

Approx 9.9 lbs.

Q: What is the weight of the AL12-P70 alternator?

The alternator weighs approx 13.20 lbs.
