The sound quality is about the same as the A20 The fit is fetter, the mike stays right where you put it. Overall feels lighter. If you need a new headset I would say buy it. If you just want to upgrade from the A20 probably not worth the money for just a little bit better headphone.

Great News headset buyers! I have owned and extensively used: DC One-X Delta Zulu and now…A30. Winner is A30. You’ll be happy with a Clark. The battery change is a learning curve and it’s not as quiet overall. But She’s a Clark and does very well. Delta Zulu was missing cable clip out of the box but did well. You have to use the app just to know the charge level of your headset and log in? The DeltaZ was more quiet than the DC. The audio out was very disappointing it didn’t pick up my voice well unless I really gave a military effort. The boom was too short to reach my center mouth!? 6 months in I started getting feedback when I spoke on the intercom. Platform for all headsets was the Cessna 172SP Garmin 530 with Kings for back-up. Pipeline Patrol flying 3-4 days a week. I flew the DC for over two years and changed ear cups as needed. Clarks over Zulu for service overall. My sling wing friends and mechanics use the Bose and they have told me for Seven years..get the Bose. So now I go up to them and say…”OMGosh Why Didn’t you Tell Me!? Excellent Quiet perfect cockpit communications even with a 60amp Arctic-Air system causing electrical chaos. Overall, I am pleased with the A30. But I do have a few observations. For 15 years I have used the Bose QC25 and UFlyMike, now called Harmony. I had two versions of this setup over the years upgrading both the Bose and the mic. A few positive observations on the A30: The A30 seems to connect to both Bluetooth and wired at the same time. I can see real benefits to this, if for instance I need to call maintenance while stopped on a taxiway. As an airline pilot, this occurs from time to time. I have not tested the phone call theory yet, but it does connect to Bluetooth. Another positive is the interaction with the intercom on the Airbus 320. The Harmony setup had a persistent static noise in the background. I tried various settings on the Harmony, but I was never able to completely minimize this static. The A30 works flawlessly. The A30 is a very comfortable headset. Ive used it on a number of flights thus far and I can easily wear for an hour or more. The main negative observation is the footprint of the A30 vs my previous setup. Its much larger. The A30 has a battery pack that dangles, whereas the Harmony is self contained. Next is the headset case that is shipped with the A30. The case is soft sided vs a rigid case for the Harmony setup. As an airline pilot, I have to use the headset case daily. Being soft sided is cumbersome. Of course a rigid case would make the aforementioned footprint even more pronounced. Finally one has to look at the price tag. The A30 is nearly twice the price of my previous setup. Definitely something to consider, especially since the Harmony setup means having a nice Bose QC25 to use on long commutes. Switching to the A30 means I use earbuds on my commute now. Earbuds do not block crying babies nearly as well as the QC25 did. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase. These headsets do work exceptionally well for what they are designed to do.

I have used the new A30 once since receiving and love them. I have been an A20 user for years and find the A30 more comfortable to wear, particularly clamp force and top of head pressure were noticeably less after a two-hour flight. The noise cancelling was superb with subtle difference from the A20. I fly a Piper PA28-236 so I definitely use the high noise cancelling setting on the A30, but I did try the Med and Low to see the difference - and there is. The Bluetooth capability was rock solid as was the A20.

Does not seem as good as the A20 headset. The one significant new feature, adjustable noise cancellation level, is really not much use (I still find the highest level the most useful). The cables are lighter (and, likely not as durable) as on the A20. The headset may be slightly lighter with a lighter clamping force, but tends to slip around on my head. The A30 is still an excellent headset, but I prefer the A20. In my opinion, the A30 is not really an upgrade from the A20.

They work superbly as I expected, but I found the clamping force to be too light. The headset doesnt feel secure on my head. I heard no difference in sound quality or noise reduction between the A30 (on high noise reduction) and the A20. I cant imagine when Id want less noise reduction, so the two lower levels will never be used. I decided to return them and get the A20 at the lower price.

Comparative Notes on the Bose A30 (I returned them): PROs: 1) Probably the lightest full-headset. The only ones lighter are the ear plug or earbud versions like the Bose Proflight-2 and similar. 2) Definitely the softest squeezing headset. 3) Seems to have a wide range of volume with minimum distortion. I was able to still hear well while wearing ear plugs with the headset. 4) 5-year warranty CONs: 1) Yep! Ear seals and the punishing penalty of “popping” every time I talked. 2) I called Bose to see if there was any way to increase the squeeze, so as to get a better ear seal….there is none. Bummer! 3) No marked improvement over the A20 nor the Zulu-3.

Ive flown with A20s for about 3000 hours on turboprop, now I recently got the new A30. First impressions are that it does essentially the same as the A20 but I was very curious so I got a new A30. For me Id be totally happy with A20. The cable on the A20 tends to break after about 2000 times in and out of the bag, well see how the thinner A30 cable does in comparison... What I really like about the A30 is that theres no more exposed cables on the headset itself, its a clean design like the QCs. Also I appreciate how easily you can swap the cable from side to side on the A30. About the reduced clamping force... Im pretty sure this comes in as a disadvantage for me because I always use glasses or sunglasses. This means the seal isnt too good around the ears (maybe the earcups will soften a bit) and I think I have some more noise leaking in than with my A20. Overall the A30 is great but if you have an A20 thats in good shape, theres no need to upgrade in my opinion.

Don’t expect the A30 to be an improved A20. It is not. The new light feel creates issues with noise reduction when wearing glasses and like to jump off your head when encountering turbulence. Which is exactly what you do not need during those moments. Also the noise canceling occasionally cuts out for no apparent reason. Cycling the selector switch brings it back up but WHY do I need to deal with this? I’ve put my A30’s back in the case and now use the A20’s again..Bose has disappointed me on these..

First headset failed after just a few hours use. returned to bose, waited a couple weeks, got another one. Same problem. It sure seems like these have an issue with the ANR failing when they are in the sun. I fly a king air and if the earpiece has sun on it around 20 minutes it fails. The ear seals dont fit tight enough either. They went too far on the comfort and lost the actual point. The asking price is a premium, but the product is certainly is not premium. Stick with your A20s folks, this isnt an upgrade.

Pros- more comfortable than a-20. Less clamping force Con- 3 modes of noise cancelling is useless. Even on mid setting its incredibly loud in the pa32. Slightest turn of the head would break the seal around your ear and youd hear that thumping bass sound like someone rolled down the rear windows in the car. My dad had the same issue. Even clenching my jaw or trying to pop my ears would do it. Returned and bought another a20.
