Overview

Ram Air Pressure Cap

Tube through cap allows forced air into tank which forces fuel out. Used with wing tank kits (P/N: 05-06359).

Reviews

When you consider a cap venting the fuel tank, its position is in the low pressure zone over the wing. Its like applying a vacuum inside the tank. This not good for gravity flow fuel. This cap provides a positive partial pressure inside the fuel tank. If you mix fuel from two upper tanks and depend on gravity, this product should seriously be considered.

This works perfectly on a 1946 Champ with wing tanks. I used my old VW Bug Brake tubing bender to get a nice 90 on it. I recommend this for your vintage aircraft.

RAM AIR PRESSURE CAP

Overall decent. I saw the comments about tube being short and was worried. but, if you put something line a punch in 1 of the end of the tube and use your thumbs to leverage a nice 90degree bend , a little at a time and move your thumb around, it bent easily. Make sure you install the cap first to determine where you want the tube pointing before bending.

The venting is assured through the ‘ram air’ function. I see no reason where this fuel can will not work better than the one it replaced.

Well made, however the tubes are not 4 protruding from the cap. Its 3 protruding from the cap and another 1 down in the cap. Unfortunalty too short to put in the tubing bender to make the 90 degree bend. Wish they made a 6 version

The 3 copper tube sticking out is shorter than I expected. If I put a 90 degree bend in it it will be within the wings lift force thereby affecting its ability to draw air. To use it Ill need to solder on another 6 or so of tubing.

Q: Regarding the RAM Air Pressure Cap: What size? What thread? Male thread? Female thread?

Per the supplier: This cap doesn't have threads. It goes over the filler neck and there are two tabs on the inside of the cap that when you turn it, it locks to the filler neck slots. The outside diameter of the cap is 2-1/2" . It's the same as the E-482-000 but this one has a tube in the middle that sticks out.

Q: What size is the tube OD on cap 05-08077?

OD is approx 1/4".

Q: What type of screw lock does the bottom have? My plane uses automotive quick-on caps.

Q: What is the overall length of the vent tube and can this tube bent at a 90 degree angle to make it a forward facing ram air fuel cap?

The vent tube is 4" in length and is metal, preventing it being bent at a 90 degree angle without modifying the device.

Q: What is the part # or size of the gasket for this cap? Does this cap come with a gasket?

It does come with a gasket but the vendor does not have a part number for the gasket. It is a fairly common sized fuel cap and the Cessna style gasket would work for a replacement (06-00987)

Q: With a two tanks AC, do you also need two vent pressure caps?

You will need (2) caps one for each tank.

Q: Will this fit a Piper J-3 wing tank?

It is designed for Aeronca tanks but if the J-3 has a 1/4 turn style cap, it should fit.
